Captains Letter and Proposed Governance Road Map

First of all, I want to say a big thank you to all the members that took part in the survey on the future management structure for our Golf Club. The response from members was very impressive with the vast majority in favour of change.
Survey results 40.6% took part 76.5% in favour of change.

This is probably the clearest steer given to any Wenvoe committee in recent memory and one which your committee overwhelmingly agree to implement.

We have drawn up the attached  proposed " timeline of activity" which shows progress to date and the steps we still need to make to complete the journey (See above dated 28 January 2022). By the end of this year we hope to have established the new structure for the club and have a new constitution in place. This is a target timeline and rightly ambitious as we seek to deliver members wishes as soon as practically possible although, depending on progress, this could be achieved either sooner or later than the target, as it is important we get every step right to ensure success.

You will see from the timeline that there is still much work to be done and to keep the ball rolling, we are appointing a " Change Committee" to start recruiting suitably experienced members into roles on the new Management Board. The Change committee will comprise of myself ( as current Captain) , the Vice Captain, a representative from Wales Golf, a member of the Governance Group with professional HR & Organisational Design experience, together with a suitably experienced member nominated by the Past Captains.

The Change Committee's initial role will be to seek applications from members for the new Management Board . We are looking for members with senior management skills in key areas including Finance and Risk, Property Maintenance / Development, Marketing and Business Development, Strategy & Change, People leadership, Hospitality, Customer Experience, etc. The roles are non-remunerative, and akin to voluntary non-exec roles of sporting bodies or businesses. If you are interested in applying for any of these roles please send a CV outlining your experience in any of the above skills, and what you consider you can contribute to the Board. Role Profiles are currently being developed by the Change Committee and will be published on our website , which will include details of closing dates for applications. At this stage, an indication of your skills and experience in any of the above will be welcomed. Skills-based appointments will be made on an interim basis and will be subject to ratification by members at the next suitable AGM/ EGM.

We are planning a new Communications Strategy to keep all our members and staff updated throughout this change which will be centred around the attached diagram. We will also publish the communications on our website.

The change path that you, the Members, have chosen has successfully been implemented by a number of progressive golf clubs in Wales and across the UK. I am delighted that Wales Golf are sharing this best practice with us as this greatly increases our confidence of success. In the meantime, rest assured that your existing club committee (with any new committee members emerging from this years' AGM) will continue to manage the club in your best interests. I hope you can already see course improvement in the work being undertaken on bunkers , greens and tees together with better drainage. Much more is planned.
